FORESTRY WORKERS
TWENTY-SiX MEN STILL REMAIN STRANDED IN ROTORUA : Although ten of the 36 men paid ' off from one of the Kaingaroa Plains forestry camps last Tuesday have ■ succeeded in returning to their homes, 1 the remaining 26 are still in Rotorua. 1 So far as can he ascertained, the 1 men are practically penniless and have I no prospects of leaving the town un- I less some assistance is given them. In | order to provide them with food over m the week-end the Rotorua Relief U Workers' Association secured surplus fl supplies from a numher of boarding- m houses while a subscription list which fl was -hastily circulated raised sufficient ■ to provide one square meal apiece yes- 9 terday. Some of the men are being ■ accommodated at the dosshouse and I others at boardinghouses and private M homes. B No reply has so far been received 9 from Wellington as a result of the 9 representations made for assistance. 9 It was stated yesterday that arrange- 9 ments for food and accommodation do 9 not 'extend ftirther than to-day. 9
