PRELIMINARY HEARING AGAINST TARRANT CQNCLUDES

Blenheim, Friday. The trial of Edwai'd Tarrant on a charge of having murdered James Flood at Picton was resumed this morning. Detective Jarrold continued his evidence. He said that Sub-Inspector Ward, after warning aceused, said he was willing to take any further rfcatement that accused would like to make. Accused then said that he found the money in a wallet under r. hedge between the croquet lawn and Miss Williams' property. He had been searrhing for hens' nests when he found it. When accused was charged with murder, he replied: "1 did not do it." After his arrest a i'20 note was found in the lining of accused's overcoat. Accused said this was the last of the money he had found. Sub-Inspector Ward's evidence followed the lines of that given by Detective Jarrold. Counsel for accused reserved his defence, and accused was committed for trial at the next sitting of the Supreme Court at Blenheim.
