LIVING IN SUSPENSE
TEN ASHBURTON MEN AWAIT NAME OF WINNER Tcn men in Ashburton ai'e on tenderhooks. They know that one of them has won £5000, but they don't know which one. So they are living in suspense and waiting for further advice from Australia. It happened this way. For some time past the 10 men have been taking- a ticket each in a New South Wales consultation, and on Saturday there came a cablegram which simply said: "Ashburton lucky. Drawn first prizc." Which is very good news for one of the 10 if only he knew it was he. Now the 10 are faced with the position that one of them has £5000, and each one knows that he has one c'nance in 10 of being the winner. Some of the men, it is understood are "saving" with each other, so that their chances are increased. Others,, it is known, are sitting pat, content to play all or nothing on the chance. Meanwhile they are waiting most anxiously for some informalion additional to that sent by their cryptic friend in Sydney.
