SCHEME APPROVED
BOROUGH COUNCIL CONTRIBUTE TO PRELIMINARY EXPENSES. A VITAL MOVEMENT. • I j The publieity and amusement comrnittee of the Rotorua Borough Cmrn- | cil on Wednesday night reported that } it had considered the proposals made by Messrs. E. G. Guy and J. McDowell dealing with the urgent necessity of combined action by all business people, ratepayers and residents to fully exploit the undoubted attractions of Rotorua and to guard against the possibility of Rotorua as a tourist, scenic, health and sporting centre being ignored by those whom it is desired should visit the district. Cr. E. T. Johnson said that the unI derlying idea of the scheme was to get every individual in the town interested, and to get him working on some committe's. The scheme was a serious one of vital interest to the town. He asked the council to make a grant of £5 toward the preliminary expenses. Cr. A. Smith was afraid that the scheme was a bit cumbersome, although he approved of the principle. The Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson, warmly supported the principle of the scheme and said that in the past, althougli we had possesed the goods, we had not put them in the window. There had not been the neeessary coordination. Now, if the human element in the town could rise to the occasion, Rotorua would get somewhere. While the organisation might he called cumbersome, it would certainly not be so cumbersome as the 101 individual organisations now existing. He eer- ; tainly wished the movement everv j cess. j Cr. G. Urquhart seconded the pro- ■ posal that £5- be granted, and the reI solution was passed unanimously.
