EXTENSIVE DAMAGE CAUSED IN WELLINGTON FACTORY
-By Telegraph— Copyright)
Wellington, Thursday. Extensive damage was done to the varnish room at Taubmann's paint factory at Miramar, as a result of an explosion which wrecked the room and ignited a boiler filled with varnish. The explosion occurred when the varnish reached a femperature of approximately 500 degrees. The explosion was heard almost a mile from the factory. Fragments of iron were hurled into the room, but no one was struck. About six feet of piping was also blown out, and the flames commenced to run back toward the heated varnish. The foreman, Mr. Ryde, attempted to move the varnish, but was unable to do so, as it suddenly ignited. Mr. Ryde sustained burns to his face. The fire was overcome hy means of extinguishers with which the factory is equipped.
