CONFERENCE ADJOURNS WITHOUT REACHING AGREEMENT

Wellington, Wednesday. With no agreement reached regarding wages, negotiations by the Sheep Owners' Federation and the shearers' representatives before the Conciliation Comissioner, have concluded. The negotiations were conducted in an amicable manner. As far as Wellington and Gisborne districts are concerned negotiations ended, and similar proceedings will take place in other districts: After the parties went into committee on Tuesday afternoon, the representatives reduced their claim to 19/- per hundred and the sheep owners raised their offer to 17/6 per hundred, with a sliding scale covering! tlie next three seasons should prices improve during that time. The workers said they were * unable to accept this. The employers made an offer' of 18/- per* hundred. As an agreement would be subject to confirmation in various districts- concerned," no" agreement could be reached.
