WORKERS' EARNINGS
UNDER NEW PROPOSALS Wellington, Friday. The possible earnings of watersiders under the new proposal were explained by Mr. C. M. Turrell, managipg superintendent of the New Zealand Shipping Company to-day. The customary hours of work on the wharf, he said, are eight hours ordinary time, between 8 a.rn. and 5 p.m. and four hours overtime, betwe"en 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. For these hours, under the employers' new proposal, the waterside workers would earn on general cargo, 15/4 ordinary time, and 11/6 overtime, making a total of 26/10; on frozen cargo, 17/8 ordinary time and 12/2 overtime, total 29/10; shovelling coal, 16/6 ordinary time, 12/1 overtime, total 28/7; trimming coal, 17/- ordinary time, 12/4 overtime, total 29/4; benzine, oil, etc., 17/8 ordinary time, but no work is permitted ' after sunset; manures, 16/6 ordinary time, 12/10 overtime, total 29/4; bulk manures, 20/- ordinary and 15/10 overtime, total 35/10,
