THE WEATHER
The Government meteorologist issued the following weather report and forecast last night: — Generai sltuation; An intense anticyclone is centred west of New Zeala'nd and is moving slowly eastward; barometers are falling slowly over eastern Australia. Forecast; Winds stili south'-wes-terly in the far north, elsewhere westerly to north-wester|ies prevailihg, light to moclerate generally, but freshening in Cook and Foveaux Straits. Weather: Fair to fine generally at firsl with miider temperatures and some showers developing i'n Westland and the far south. Following are the barometer, maximum and minimum thermometer, sunshine, and rainfall readings recorded at the Government Observation Station by the Rotorua Tourist Department for the 24 hours ended at 9.30 a.m. yesterday. * Barometer 30.346ins. Thermometer (max.) 60.8deg. Thermometer (min.) 39.0deg. Thermometer (min. on grass) 31.6deg. Rainfall Nil Bright Sunshine 8.7hrs.
