MAJESTIC THEATRE

TO-NIGHT Seemingly attempting the impossible, RKO Pathe has achieved it, in presenting to the public a story of the tropics which is strikingly original both in theme and presentation. Starring the lovely Ann Harding, I "Prestige," which opened last night at the Majestic Theatre, is laid in the inland regions of Indo-China, right in the heart of the jungle, six hundred miles from the nearest civilised settlement. Two white people alone in a native colony, struggle along, not succumbing to the evil beauty or insidious lure of the tropics, but hating its hot fever-laden air; its wild tangles of savage eolour — upheld only by their obedience to military codes — trying to maintain tlie prestige of the white 1 race. As the cultured Parisienne who gives up everjdhing she bas been taugbt to appreciate that she may f ol- , low her soldier-lover into the exile of a soldier, Ann Harding is superb. j Melvyn Douglas gives a performance i that easily rates him as one of the finest of the newer screen players. Adolphe Menjou surpasses even his own high standards of fine acting. A notable bit of work is contributed by Clarence Muse, negro singr er and actor, who employs both talents in the course of "Prestige." Others, in briefer but none-the-less notable roles, are Guy Bates, Post, Ian MacLaren, Carmelita Geraghty, and Creighton Hale.
