EXPENSIVE TALK
SEARCII FOR FRIEND. A telephone search of two capitals for the purpose of a ship-to-shore talk was revealed when the White Star liner Majestic reach-ad Southampton from New York recently. Miss Watson, a first-class passenger, put in a wireless telephone call to Miss Keyes, a friend whom she helieved to be at Angelet, France. The call went through to the time asked, 2.30 p.m., but, to Miss Watson's surprise, she found berself talking not to France but to London, where her friend was at a luncheon club. This is how it was done. The operator in the Majestic rang London. London got through to. Paris, and Paris to Angelet. Paris tried in vain to trace Miss Keyes, and reported to London. The London exchange verified the original address in France with th'e Majestic operator, started a telephone inquiry in London, and at last Miss Keyes was found. Miss Watson was charged £1 16s for service and a three-minute conversation.
