WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
OPOTIKI BIRTHDAY The Opotiki Women's Institute held its fourth birthday party on Saturday afternoon. The tables were decorated with bowls of stocks, irises, poppies, violets, while pedestals of wattle stood in different corners of tjhe room. A long bench exhibited some excellent examples of the Institutes' work, and many beautiful cushions, eiderdowns, etc., were to be seen. Mrs. Wagner (president) welcomed each guest on arrival, and officially opened the afternoon. The following very entertaining programme was rendered : — Pianoforte solo, Mrs. J. Black; competition (arranged by Mesdames Black and Forbes) and won by Mrs. J. G. Murray and Mrs. Burke; song, Mrs. Jack Shaw, "My Dear Soul"; sketch, Mesdames W. J. Scott, R. Hedley, G. Vanstone, D. McDiarmid, N. F. Benham, White, W. Murray, J. Kelly; chorus, Mrs. C. Hambly and party; song, Miss B. Kelly "Keep on Hopin."

Clark lit the four candl- ! es. 1 Mrs. Woolfield thanked the Opotiki branch for the kind invitation ex- ' tended to the WTaimana Institute, Mrs. Fryer, on behalf of the Waiotahi Institute, wished them "many happy returns," and Mrs. W. H. Pilkington in the absence of Mrs. P. Mulhern (president), on behalf of the Woodland's ; Women's Institute, thanked the Opotiki members for the very entertaining afternoon. ; The party was brought to a close j with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" : and the National Anthem.
