TRAINING COL. WINS

ROTORUA REPRESENTATIVES BEATEN BY FOUR GOALS SPLENDID EXHIBITION The annual game played on Saturday at the Government Grounds be- | tween the Auckland Training College 1 A team and the Rotorua representative team provided a splendid exhibit.on of basketball on the part of both teams, with Training College showing moro finish than Rotorua. This won the game for them by 11 goals to 7. Indicating the interest which was taken in the match there was over 150 spectators present and each team had its share of partisans. Training College won the toss and chose goal end in preference to first pass. Before long, however, Training College got possession and netted the first three goals. Their quick, forceful passing gave Rotorua few ehances of intei cepting. Rotorua rallied, however, and J. Isdale scored. After this, the game fluctuated a good deal, but tbrough faulty goal throwing Rotorua missed golden opportunities of taking the lead. At half-time, Training College was leading by 5 goals to 2. After half-time scoring was more even, Rotorua gaining 5 more goals and their opponents six. In addition to failure at goal throwing, Rotorua players generally showed a tendency to dwell with their passes and did not pay sufficient attention to anticipating the opposition's attack. For Training College, J. Gummer, and M. Blythe were the outstanding forwards, while they were well fed from the centre by E. Hunt, who marred a good display by showing a tendency, to step with the ball, N. Jacombs was the mainstay of a sound defence. For Rotorua, D. Davies was the outstanding player in the centre base. Defence was the department in which the team shone best with E. Rushton most pxominent. The Rotorua forwards had a plcntiful supply of the ball, but chances were lost by hasty, over ambitious shooting. J. Isdale was the most successful goal thrower. Mrs. Walker refereed. Visitors Entertained After the game, the visitors were entertained at afternoon tea in the Dofiy Vaiaen tearooms. The Ro orua captain, Miss D. Davies, congratuiated the visitors on their victory and said that the Rotorua team was looking forward to the return game in Auckland next month.
