-By Telegraph — Copyright)
OTTAWA, Saturday. Australia has secured the British Army's frozep meat contract, amountr ing to nearly 1000 head of cattle q week for six months from next September to March. The prices, which are considerably above the present levels, will have an important uplift in the Australian meat trade. The Angliss Company's share of the contract amounts to from 400 to 500 head of cattle a week. Mr. W. G. Angliss (a director of the company who is at present in Ottawa) reeeived cabled news from London this afternoon, and it is believed that Borthwick's and other companies will also share. The prices are such as to ensure profitable business in the early stages of delivery and represent the first ray of sunshine for months. The arrangement is to supply also some thousand carcases of sheep, the British Government having the right to decide to take mutton instead of beef if mutton is lower. The first deliveries, commencing ih September, can profitably be made ex store, London.
