Bowling Club At the annual general meeting of the Rotorua Bowling Club, which will be h'eld on "Wednesday, August 31, a president, two viee-presidents, secretary, treasurer, auditor and nine coiflmitteemen will be elected for the coming season. " Nominations must be in the hands of the secretary ssven clear days before the meeting. Phenomenal Progress The interest which has followed the formation of the Motutara Golf Club was evidenced on Friday 'evening when the general meeting called by the committee was "packed out." It was decided to commenee the first competition matches on Wednesday, August 24. Those unable to play on this date will play on Saturday, August 27.

Don|ation of Cup At the general meeting of the Motutara Golf Club on Friday evening, the president, Mr. C. R. Tapper, announced that thp patron of the club, Dr. J. D. C. Duncan, had decided to present a cup for annual competition among members. In appreciation of Dr. Duncan's generous action a vote of thanks was passed by accl^mation. A vote of thanks was also accorded Mr. A. Hesketh, head groundsman, Government Gardens, for his valuable assistance in the preparation of the new golf course. Devon Street "Pop" A function deserving public support is the Devon Street Hall "pop" which takes place pn Wednesday evening next at 8 p'.m. Proceeds are to be in aid of the funds of the Rotorua Boy ScQuts, who have done a great deal lately to help the poor and needy of the town. Cards and daneing will be arranged, while good music and supper are promised. This is an excell'ent chance of lielping a good cause for the very moderate sum of 1/-. The scouts have spent a great deal of time and energy in assisting various causes and this is a modest effort to xecoup their own funds. A Reclpe for Health. During cross-examination at "the Nelson Magistrates' Court recently a woman witness admitted that she had had money to hny a bottle of stout a week and to buy tobacco for her pipe. "A glass of beer is betber for my health than a smart frock on my back," she said, "and the doetor told me to smoke the pipe for my nerves."
