Ngongotaha Mountain
From the summit of Ngongotaha a superb panoramic view of the Thermal Regions is obtained. Comprehended in a single glance is a bewildering diversity of sights and objects. Far out to sea in a N.E. direction White Island is clearly distinguished ; to the S.E. the summits of Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe rise in sharp outline against the sky; and between these two extremes lie a network of lakes, wide stretches of primeval bush, extensive forest areas, and mountain peaks. Visitors to the Ngongotaha summit are thrilled by the magnificent prospect that opens out to the North, South, East and West; but clear weather and good visibility are essential to a full enjoyment of this popular half-day j journey. |
