FORTURATE ESCAPE

EARLY MORNING ALARM Awakened to find his bedroom full of smoke, Mr. W. Stonehouse, of Ohinemutu, was in time to give the alarm and possibly save his home from destruction early this mornjng. Apparently a spark from a chimney built outside the wall kindled the match lining inside the wall, and had the outbreak not been promplly checked, it must have ignited the whole room. Mr. Stonehouse, perceiving from the smell of smoke that something was seriously amiss, ran from his house to his shop, which is nearby, and gave ihe alarm by telephone. The brigade was quickly on the scene and when the wall was cut away, it was discovered that the lining was badly charred and blatkened. Fortunately, Kowever, this appeared to be the extent of the damage.
