NO DEWATERING
REMEDIAL MEASURES ARAPUNI, Friday. Indications are that notwithstanding the development of a subsidence at the top end of the tiled portion of the headrace at Arapuni, a temporary shutting down of the station will not now be necessary. Investigations on the spot are being carried out by Mr. F. W. Furlcert, engineer-in-chief of the Public Works Department and Mr. F. T. M. Kissel, chief electrical engineer, who adhere to their opinion that remedial measurs can be applied without dewatering the headrace level of the water which is now down 8ft. and it is not proposed to lower it further. To cover the hole in the lined portion where the subsidence has oecurred, a coffer dam will be sunk and when the leakages in the unlined part have been found they will be grouted. In the meantime the stand-by steam plant at King's Wharf, Auckland, has , steam up in readiness to take over the provincial load should any emergency arise. To-day Messrs, Furkert and Kissel
" were early on the job and carried on a tour of inspection and examination. This was completed at 11 a.m., they then left by motor car for Te Awamutu to conn'ect with the. aeroplane in which they are flying back to Wellington.
