DAIRY PAY-OUTS
BIG SUMS CIRCULATE IN ' CENTRAL TARANAKI DISTRICT. BUSINESS BRIGHTENS UP. In bonuses over the past season, and in payments for June milk splly, the dairy companies in Central Taranaki distrihuted £36,988 on July 20, Natura-ly this: oubstantial return fr-om dairying operations in this district is not clear profit- to the farmers, but it is in 'excess of wh'at was cjarlier anticipated and has had a beneficial effect on business locally, says the Stratford Post. A different and more optimistic tone was abroad due, in some measure, to the more generons honus payments than suppliers had previously expected. This, of course, was made possible by the general improvement in the dairy
markets over the past two months or so. Another important factor was the announcements by dairy companies that the final pay-ont over the season would he about one penny better than that for th'e previous season. This improvement is due in the main to the more stable prices this season. In the previous year prices went to so low an ebb as 45s for cheese and remained under 55s for a considerable period, but no so during 1931-32.
