BOYS DEMAND £5000

Two boys, aged 15 and 12, who typed a threatening letter from a novel and sent it to Miss Lily Shear (19), of Smith' Street, Stepney, London, recently, were remanded in custody at a juvenile court in Toynbee Hall. The letter included the words "the shot will be fired by hand that never misses," and demanded that £5000 in notes should be placed in a garden centrepiece at the back of Miss Shear's house. A solicitor said that the letter in the novel said: "You have only 24 hours for certain," but the boys gave Miss Shear much longer to pay the £5000. Miss Shear broke down and wopt bitterly when she described ihe "nerve strain and rack" after receiving the letter.
