GIRL CYCLIST'S FEAT

13 HOURS THROUGH STORM Miss Rene Ryan, who on Sunday, June 19, rode from Sydney to Bathurst — 137 miles — in 12 hours 55 minutes, learned to ride a bicycle just over two months ago. She says she tllinks her training as a waitress in sundry city caies helped her footwork. Miss Ryan faced the liead-winds, snowstorms, and icy blasts of the open road in plus fours, a red jerseys, and red cap. She rode a man's bicycle, the same one on which she had practice runs to Gunnamatta Bay, where she "trained" for a couple of hours every morning. Her training consisted in riding round Centennial Park, and out to Randwick and points west. She has never been to a professional trainer, or a masseui', and she says she does not need to.
