INDIAN COIN UNEARTHED
Memories of Christchurch' in the embryo when Victoria Square w)as the site of a typical English market centre, have been rekindled by the excavations that have been carried on during the past few weeks in preparing the foundations for the Cook statue. The workmen have unearthed a eonsiderahle number of cobblestones and many tons of metal. Pecently an Indian rupee, dated 1846, was dug up at a depth of about eighteen inches. Although the coin had been buried for many years, it was in an 'excellent _ state of preservation, and it took little polishing to restore it to its original colour.
