COMMUNISTS BLAMED FOR FATAL SHOOTING AFFRAY. CAVALRY RUSHED TO RIOT.

-By Telegraph — Copyright).

Rec. July 29, 5.5 p.m. WASHINGTON, Friday. As a result of a disturbance between TJnited States army veterans who have invaded the capital dexnanding payment of their war bonuses, a critical situation has deveToped in Wiashington. Allegedly as the result of incitement by Communists, the veterans clashed with the police when stones, bricks and hottles were freely used.- The situation ,became out of hand and the police fired on the mob killing one soldier and injuring others. The civil authorities were unable to maintain law and order and military detachments with machine guns had to be caljed out. These set about the work of evicting the veterans from the capital and burning their camp. A state of army law prevails in Washington. ■' A group of bonus-seeking United States' veterans to-day resorted to violence. After being evicted from a building tbey were occupying in Lower Pennslyvania Avenue they chased the police some distance, throwing bricks at them. , . A later message states that shooting broke out between the police and veterans,. who are encamped on Pennslyvania Avenue, two blocks from the capitol. One veteran who has not been identified was shot dead and another seripusly wounded. Troops were ordered out at the direction of the President, Mr. Hoover. From Fort Myer, squadrons of cavalry were rushed into tbe city and headed for White House. Meanwhile, down near the capitol, the police strove to keep order among the veterans who are in an ugly mood after having been- fired upon by the officers. Led by Communists White House officials state that information had come to them from Secret Service agents that the veterans who led the attack upon the policemen were entirely a Communist group. The statement was made without amplification by one of the President's secretaries. Troops arrived in the troubled area at 4.45 p.m., and have been given orders to clear away the veterans.
