CABINET MINISTER SEES NEW NORTHERN TYPE EVOLVING WILL STIMULATE AUSTRALIA. j DARWIN, July 9. Is there a definite type of Australian evolving in the far north — as different from the rest of us as are the peop'le of the southern States of America from their compatriots, and yet as essentially united in the national fabric? This arresting idea was propounded by the Minister for the Interior (Mr. Parkhill) in his reply to the civic welcome on our arrival at Darwin this afternoon.' "In passing through the Territory," said Mr. Parkhill, "I could not escape a feeling that the uniform charm of the settlers expressed the growth of a peculiar race develipment. "If that is really so, triumph over your vexatious problems is only a matter of time. The men are here, and, given their chance, they will stimulate the life, not only of the north, but of Australia generally. "Much would be achieved when the sympathy of the rest of Australia was properly awakened, but a measure of sympathy was required also from the Darwin people," he added. "I hope you will remember both your advantages over the isolated outback people, and also that Darwin's prosperity cannot be forced in hothouse style," said Mr. Parkhill. "You can progress only relatively to the growth and improvement of the producing areas."
