EARLY MORNING FIRE
BRIGADE S GOOD SAVE Shortly after three o'clock this morning, the glare of flames rising from the rear of the premises occupied hy Mr. Allari Wood, chemist, in Tutanekai Street, attracted the attention of the night watchman, v/ho sounded the alarm. The brigade turned out very smartly and was able to effect an excellent save and avoid an outbreak which could easily have swept one of the main shopping blocks. The fire apparently originated in Mr. Wood's dispensary and spread through the rear of the premises to the adjacent billiard saloon and hairdresser's shop owned by Mr. Hori Mau. It was impossible to ascertain the full extent of the damage this mornitig but the rear portion of Mr. Woods' shop was apparently badly gutted and considerable damage by fire and smoke had been done in the adjoining premises. The brigade quickly ran a lead through to the rear of the building and had the outbreak under control within a very few minutes.
