RECKLESS WOMAN

PLUNGES INTO BANKRUPTCY AND REFUSES GOURT ACCOUNTS. HUGE SUMS BORROWED. ... . SYDNEY, Saturday. Mrs. Aimee Belle Edols, the society woman now in Long Bay gaol, New South Wales, has creditors who claim from her £26,000. She is 'now serving a sentence of six months because of her obduracy and contempt in having refused to reveal to the Official Receiver, the ' Registrar, and the Bankruptcy Judge and details of the "secret investments" of £45,000,000 which she declares eonstitutes her estate. Mrs. Edols, although'- in physique somewhat frail, possesses a strong and magnetic personality. Her voice is cultured, and she speaks with precision. She was a member of one of the leading Society clubs of the city, had entree to the homes of leading people of not only this State, but Yictoria. Among those to whom she is indebted is Adrian T. Edwards, solicitor, of Wahroonga, £4700. He is a cousin of the bankrupt. Then there is Dr. F. T. la Touche, of Newtown, another relative and to him she is indebted to the extent of £1000. Friends and elatives. A bosom friend of Mrs. Edols was Mrs. M. Yvers, of Elizabeth Bay, Sydney. Her little account against Mrs. Edols is £8300. It was in the vicinty of >£5000, but payments reduced it to the present figures. The well known city sharebrokers Utz and Bode claim from Mrs. Edols £1500. Another relative is Roy Edols, retired grazier, of Melbourne, and he asks Mrs. Edols for an adjustment of £3000 owing to him. Ernest Edols, retired grazier, of Eastbourne Road, Darling Point, the husband of the bankrupt, heads the list of claimants against the estate with' a substantial bill of £10,000. Mr. James Linton (of the legal firm of Perkins, Stevenson and Co.), who is appearing for the Official Receiver, is making most determined efforts to solve the "mystery investments" of Mrs. Edols, and, up to the present, has called witnesses to prove that Mrs. Edols had borrowed from them, on the strength of "secret investments," a total of £8700 of the £26,000 owing to creditors. From a reliable souroe it was ascertained that the Commonwealth Crown authorities are closely watching the bankruptcy proceedings and that a sensational development will take place as soon as the Official Receiver has obtained evidence regarding Mrs. Edols' £45,000 assets.
