EASIER WINTER STARTING. Some of the difficulty in starting ones engine on eold winter mornings can be eliminated by spending a minute or two of extra time when the car is put away at night. Before the engine is stopped at night, the petrol should be tufried off from the carburetter, and the engine should be allowed to run until the fuel remaining in the float chamber and feed pip^s j is exhausted. Petrol should not be j readmitted to the carbureetter until the following morning. Then there is a completely fresh supply of petrol awaiting admittance to the carburet- , ter jets. The imp'ortance of the prej cautlon lies in the fact that if the j engine is stopped in the ordinary way j the heat still remaining in the cylinder bloclc is sufficient partly to evaporate away the petrol in the float chamber. That portion of the petrol so lost is the part which is most volatile, and which therefore most assists a eold start The portion left is heavier and less volatile, and if it be all that is available the difficulty of eold starting is aggravated. If the carburetter he emptied in the manner suggested, a completely fresh supply of fuel becomes available to start the motqr.
