HERB TESTING
AFFILIATION APPROYED An extarordinary meeting of the Opotiki Herd Testing Association was held on Saturday morning to decide whether the local association should be wound up and affiliate with the Bay of Plenty Association. The chairman of the Bay of Plenty association had been approached and had no objections to the Opotiki association affiliating. It was explained that as far as their own association was concerned there would be no extra expense for members; the Bay association would receive up to three groups without extra charge. The tester of the local association had been canvassing the district and so far it appeared likely that only two groups would be formed. If they did join the district group they would have to abide by the rules and regulations of the federation. Each group of the local association would appoint a director to represent it at the bi-monthly meeting. The charges made by the B.O.P. association were: 4/6 per eow up to 35 cows. 3/9 per cow from 35 to 75 cows; 2/6 per cow over 75. There was also a direetor's fee, as the association allowed travelling expenses at the rate of 6d per mile and 10/- for the day. In reply to a question as to the advantages to be gained by affiliation the chairman pointed out that the minimum fee was £5 5/- as against £8 required by the local association. It was unanimously decided to affiliate, the eommittee of the local association remaining in charge of the winding up of the local association's affairs.
