RECKLESS ADVENTURE
"THE UNHOLY GARDEN" SHOWS AT THE MAJESTIC ON MONDAY. RONALD COLMAN — OUTCAST. Reeklessly adventurous rather than ! romantic, Ronald Colman comes to i the Majestic Theatre on July 25th, in ! "The Unholy Garden," as Samuel i Goldwyn's first screen presentation of ! the year. I For the first time in two years, I Colman is no longer the suave poi- 1 ished English gentleman. Instead, he is an outcast and a renegade, hid- | ing out with a dozen other -refugees j from the law in a strange outpost at j the edge of the Sahara. Dishevelled j and unshaven, hair touseled and ! clothes mussed, he is a sharp eon- j trast to the immaculately groomed ! jj hero of "The Devil to Pay," "Rattles" j and "Bulldog Drummond," his earlier pictures for Mr. Goldwyn. ! Estelle Taylor and Fay Wray have ! the principal feminine roles. As ; the wanton voluptuary of the stoiy, | Miss Taylor has the biggest part since j her memorabie appearance in "Cim- ' arron." Miss Wray is the protected daughter of the embezzling recluse, ' hiding at the Inn. j An extraordinary gathering of ! character players appear as "the fam- I ily," the exiled eriminals whose plot- j tings and schemings g'ive such ani- | mation to the yarn. Warren Ilymer, • Tully Marshall, Lawrence Grant, Ul-
lric Haupt, Kit Guard, Henry Arm- . etta and Mischa Auer are among the t thespian menaces of the yarn. j It is there, in Orage, that the odd i assortment of crooks, adventurers , and murderers gather to plot the cap- ' ture of the old Baron's hidden plunder. By fair means or foul, they planned to force the secret of the hiding place from the recluse and his daughter. Barry Hunt (Ronald Col- 1 man), pursued by an alluring spy for the police (Estelle Taylor) appears to propose skill and trickery instead of violence. Tlirough the Baron's daughter, Camilla (Fay Wray), Barry begins his work. Murder, wild desert rides, the excitement i of life-or-death gambling, cat-like ] cunning as men match wits and brawn ! I for fortunes or a woman's smile, the j thud of the impact of fists and fiesh — i these are among the essential ingred- i ients of Hecht and MacArthur's lurid 1 yarn. j It is the first picture of this kind, | or of such a background, that Ron- ! ald Colman has appeared in since he i did "Beau Geste" four years ago.
