PUNCTURES
CARE YERY NECESSARY IN CHANGING A WHEEL When changing tyres or replacing them after punctufes few motorists recognise the importance of ensuring that the interior of the cover, the tube, and the base of the wheel rim are al solutely clean, and they pay for cliis neglect by unnecessary I punctures. Fine sand displaced from I the rim and caught in the cover, grit ! introduced clinging to the tube, and ! even flakes of rust from the rim itself, all have an abrasive influence on the inflated inner tube, and when accumulated in even small quantities these abrasive foreign substances can easily wear a hole in the tube. It is not always easy thoroughly to remove dirt from the inside of a cover, but for this purpose a vaeuum cleaner will be found useful in changing tyres at J hGme, or can be done by using the tyre j pump to blow away foreign substanj ces. The rims should be kept well ' painted, and as spots appear they { should be removed with sandpaper ' and the burnished metal immediately | protectcd with paint.
