BIRTHDAY PARTY

PLEASANT FUNCTION HELD IN WAIOTAHI HALL On Friday evening Miss E. Rau, of Waiotahi cslebrated her twenty-first birthday by holding a party in the Waiotahi Hall. Mr and Mrs A. F. Rau received each guest warmly. Mrs Rau was attired in a charming frock of - black satin beaute and Miss Rau wore a dainty evening frock of lemon brocaded satin. The room was gayly lit with coloured lights tied to grean nikau branches placed around the room. A punga tree stood in the centre of th'e hall and from it hung coloured streamers. Mr. Steve Shalfoon's popular Gaiety Orchestra supplied the music for the dancing. Mr and Mrs S. Jeffrey won the Monte Carlo. Various items were given during the evening. Mr. V. Elliott sang "I Hear Your Calling Me" and for an encore "The Little Streams of Donna". Mrs Burke gave a very much appreciated song "Rose of My Heart." Mr G. Watson and Mr. V. Elliott then sang a duet "Excelcior" which met with great applause. After a delicious supper had been served Miss Rau came forward and with th'e help of her parents she lit the candles and' cut the attractive birthday cake. In a brief speech Mr C. Shove, who throughout the evening made a very competent M.C., wished Miss Rau "Many Happy Returns" and stated that, as she was so well known, it was not necessary to stress her good points. Mr Shove handed Mr Rau a i Golden Key, "Which," he said, "is to i open the door to your doughter's fu. ture." In a brief and appropriate speech Mr Rau thanked the guests for theiri
