STORE BURGLED
SHELVES RANSACKED AND SUM IN CASH TAKEN. The City • Supply Store at Maungaroa, on the East Coast Road to Cape Runaway, was brolcen into some tim's on Thursday night *or early on Eriday morning. Mr. R. C. Helm, the proprietor, was in Optoiki at the time, obtain- 4 ing fresh stocks. The news was tele- i phoned through to him on Friday morning by his assistant, Miss Q. Allen. , ] The intruder or intruders gained 1 'entry by breaking a phte-glass win- : dow and then breaking or cutting 1 the wire netting at the back. The counter is • covered • with f oot- ! marks where the unauthorised visitor evidnetly stood on it while reach- 1 ing goods stack'sd on the shelves. s All the cash in the day's takings : was remftved, but a chsqne was left j 1 behind. Men's clothing, boots-, ciga- 1 rettes, and other goods were also j removed. ' The burglary was discovened by a I Maori named Tangira at five o'ciock 1 j on Friday morning, and was later 1 telephoned by Miss Allen to J. Pirini, the local constable, who imme- 1 diately left Te Krtha to investigate. Constable Bnsed left Opotiki after ; the news was received here.
