MET ON THE MAT
(Press. Assn.—
HOUSEHOLDER WHO OPENED THE DOOR TO A BURGLAR.
-By Telegraph — Copyright).
WANGANUI, Friday. He was a very surprised burglar who, having prised open the front door of Mr. J. D. Hammond's groeery shop in Ingestre Street early this morning, found the owner waiting to receive. him. Mr. Hammond's shop had been entered recently by a burglar, so he decided to sleep on the. premises, where he would be ready to receive unauthorised visitors. Everything worked out according to Mr. Hammond's plan, except that he did not have the pleasure of handing over the burglar to the police. However, he had the satisfaction of geting a good look at the burglar. There were apparently two men on the job, for Mr. Hammond heard voices. He was awakened by the noise of the splintering of timber. He Had a string attached to a switch near the door, and leading to the back of the shop, and when he switched on the light there was the burglar, about to enter the premises. The burglar did not wait.
