Condition Still Serious The condition of Mrs Maria Phillips who was badly hurn-ed at her home at Okere on Wednesday, was report-, ed last evening to be still serious. No License In the Rotorua Magistrate's Court on Monday Theodore Dodinski, was fined £2 and costs 10/-, by Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., for driving a motor car with'out. a license. Bath Fees The Town Clerk (Mr. W. A. McLean) informed the Rotorua Borough Council last night that the Government had reduced bath fees payable to the council by another 10 per cent. Art Union Tickets The Rotorua Borough Council at its meeting last night granted permission to sell "Black Cat" art union tickets in the streets during Friday and Saturday. Saturday is the. final day of the sale of tickets. Found in Auckland News has been received of the finding of the bell which was removed from the Rotorua Railway Station last Sunday evening. It is stated that railway cleaners found the bell secreted in a coach of the Rotorua express at Auckland. The removal of the bell was apparently designed as a praetical joke by those responsible for the act. Canteen Fund Payments The Unemployment Committee of the Rotorua branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association anticipates being in a position to make increased provision for subsidy payments on work provided for unemployed returned soldiers when the allocation of the £30,000, to be dravm from New Zealand Association's canteen fund, is received. At the present time the aetivities of the association in this direction are necessarily limited. Opening in Oetober 'It is considered possible that should the present rate of progress he maintained, the work on the adults portion of the Blue baths will be far enough advaneed to permit of th'e opening of the pool to the public during Oetober next. All that remains to be done in the dressing rooms Is the plastering of the walls and ceilings while other work on the building is also making rapid progress. A novel feature of the baths will he the diving tower specially designed for use in swimming contests. "Valvular Trouble" In pleading guilty to a charge of vagraney yesterday morning, a man with a taste for methylated spirits toki the court that he had nothing to expect but a sentence of imprisonment, but, he urged Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., not to make it hard labour, because he was suffering from valvular trouble o£ the heart. It was a new description of the effect of a spree on methylated spirits, but the magistrate, reeognising his condition, deleted the hard labour clause from a sentence of three months imprisonment. Findlay Cup Challenge. Rughy football enthusiasts unable to follow the Rotorua team in its challenge for the Peace Cup at Matamata on Saturday, will he provided with interesting games at Arawa Park, where the chief attraction of the afternoon will be the match for the Findlay Cup between Matamata and Rotorua teams. Although the pick of the local players will he playing at Matamata, the home team is a capable side and should fully extend the visitors. Junior grade matches will be played as early games and these should also prove interesting.
