AFFLUENT NATIVE
MAORI INHERITS A FOUR-FIGURE FORTUNE. A Maori resident of Awaroa, near Kawhai, who was in very needy circumstances a fortnight ago, is now accounted a "millionaire" by his Native friends as the result of the inh'eritance of a fortune running to over four figures. As related by the Thames Star, the story of Moses Powdrell, known loeally as Moses Fish, is that his grandfather was an Englishman, who years ago lived at Thames, married a threequarter caste woman, and later returned to England, where he left a fortune of £24,000. Moses got word that there was money in the estate, and interested a legal firm in his claim. He has already received preliminary instalments totalling over £1000, and has | acquired a motor car. Apparently, however, he has a sense of prudence, for an amount of the inheritance has been banked on fixed deposit for the benefit of his little girl when she comes of age.
