ROTORUA CLUB'S VIEWS
Interviewed in connection with the decision of the 'Government to pay a bonus of ls 4d a pound on deer skins as an incentive to unemployed men to engage in deer destruction, Mr. H. R. Jones, h'on. secretary .of the Rotorua Rod and Gun Club, stated that while the decision might have satisfactory results in proteeting pastures in closely settled areas, his executive were of the opinion that for obvious reasons more control should be exercised, and that so far as Rotorua was concerned the decision would ultimately have the effect of exterminating the deer, with disastrous effects on one of the district's most popular sporting attractions. The damage resulting to stock from indiscrinainate shooting was, he said, one of ihe most important directions in which control was required, and during the past year many complaints had reached him from farmers who had suffered severe losses in this direction.
