HELPFUL SPIRIT
MINISTER GRATIFIED AT SETTLEMENT OF THE COAL STRIKE WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The hope that the same spirit which resulted in the settlement of the Northern mining dispute will domiqate future conciliation proceedings, yfas expressed by the Minister of Labpur, Hon. Adam Hamilton, this afternoon, commenting on the ratification of the conference agreement by the miners' unions. "I was certainly very pleased when I learned that the ballot axnong the miners had resulted in the majority favouring an agreement," said Mr. Hamilton. "It will be recalled," he said, "that as Minister of Labour, I invited representatives of the mine owners and the miners to meet me, after unsuccessful negotiations fpr agreement ilt was apparent to me when they entered the conference r-oom, that both sides had come forward in a spirit of helpfulness and desired to arfive at a satisfactory settlement. The pcnference to my mind, indicates that much can be done around a conciliation table in the spirit of give and take."
