It appeared that the theft was witnessed by a boy who told the police. The magistrate was lenient, and turning to the prosecUtor he said: "You yourself are not blaineless. You left your store unattended for 20 miuutes with a number of tins of a popular brand of tobaeco lying about, thus putting temptation into the way of any tramp that came along." The "popular brand of tobaeco" referred to by his worship was the well-known Cut Plug No. 10 — one of the four brands of "toasted" so much fancied by smokers, the others being Navy Cut No. 3, Cavendish and Riverhead Gold. Next to no nicotin.e in these tobaccos. They're toasted!
