normally this is far from a quiet engine. Removing and replacing the eomplete tappet is the work of a few seconds, and for one hand. The makers claim increased flexibility, as well as reduction of noise, a diminution of carbon deposit, readier accsleration and starting from cold. I hope to test a set of these on my own car and write a full report on the results, but in the meantime it seems obvious that, 'except in the event of some breakdown, the instant instead of the delayed opening of the inlet valves, together with the fuller charge received, must make for quicker starting and better performanee. I accept very few "obvious" conclusions on anything to do with motor cars, and this and the other claims must await the confirmation of my own experience; but th'e most important feature of all I accept with gratitude — the certainty of the owner-driver's valves heing always correctly set and never in need of adjustment. If this is proved to be a fact I shall he inclined to rank the invention equal in importance with four-wheel brakes and low-pressure tyres.
