ROTORUA BRANCH HOLDS REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the executive committee of the Rotorua branch of the R.S.A. was held on Thursday evening last. There were present : Dr. S. H. Hay, Messrs. G. H. French, E. G. Fraser, H. Gribble, C. Mitchell, F. Oldham, G. H. Weir, W. Bates, J. Brownlie, W. Garth. Col. E. G. Fraser was appointed chairman. Apologies were received from Messrs. S. L. Paterson, S.M., J. D. Painton, and J. Watson. The president, Major R. J. Dansey, was absent in Wellington attending the conference of the association. The campaign for bringing in new members has been launched, and in addition to the circularising of exservicemen, a sub-committee consisting of Dr. Hay and Messrs. Gribble, Weir, and Garth was set up in order to arrange and attend meetings of ex-servicemen at Reporoa and Mamaku with a view to forming sub-associations in those places. All old and intending members are to be asked-to forward their 5/- subscriptions to the treasurer, care of Box 146, Rotorua. A number of applications for assistance and relief were received and considered. Where possible steps were taken towards assistance for the urgent cases. Messrs. Oldham and Garth were appointed as visitors from the assoeiation to returned soldiei-s in hospital and sanatorium. A weekly visit will be paid and small gifts made in some instances. Matters regarding pensions, etc., will also be adjusted. The financial statement for the quarter was read by the secretary, in the absence of the treasurer, and disclosed the association's position to ' be sound, but still not affluent, owing to the continued demands made on the financial resources. A telegram was received from Major Dansey, Rotorpa delegate to the association conference as follows: "Successful re canteen grant, twenty thousand, plus interest, also capitation reduced to fifteen pence. Excellent conference." It was pointed out to the me'eting that this amount would total £32,000, including* interest, but of course this money will be apportioned out to all associations in New Zealand. Unemployment Subsidies. It has been brought to the committee's* attention that abuses have occurred in the issuing of certificates for work done. In order to prevent this, a system has heen evolved whereby a standdrd form of eertificate will be issued and an inspeetor will investigate where necessary. Drastic action is intended against offenders in the future. (
