COUNTY COUNCIL
COMMITTEE'S REPORT ON ECONOMIES FOR YEAR. The recommendations of the special finance eommittee set up by the Opotiki County Council to affect drastic economies for t)he ensuing year in view of the present economic depression, are as follow: — General revision of wages paid to all employees of the councii was considered, and the county clerk and engineer's salaries were each reduced by £15 per annum. The wages of permanent employees of the council were reduced as foilo w : — Man and three horse-team from 30/- to 25/- per day. Lorry driver from 15/8 to 15/-. Grader drivers from 15/8 to 14/ 4. drerteral surfacemen from 13/2 tb 12/-. Rates for the ensuing year were considered and it was decided that they be i*educed as followsi — Ohiwa Riding, from 4£d to 4d; Waiotahi Riding, from 3^d to 3d; Waioeka Riding, from 3d to 21d; Upper Waioeka Riding, from lOd to 9d; Otara Riding, from 7£d to 7d Coast Riding remains at 4d. It was also decided that 5 per cent. feduction be allowed for a prompt payment of rates and that the engineer be recommended, instead of reducihg Staff, tO adopt a rationing scheme.
