McCALL WINS SATURDAY'S RACE OF TWENTY MILES FASTEST TIME TO HAYCOCK The road cycle race held under the auspices of the Rotorua Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club on Saturday afternoon over a return course from Frenton Street to the Mourea post offiee was won by J. McCall and fastest time for the distance was gained by G. Haycock. Five riders faced the starter, N. Howe and Haycock leaving at 2.15 p.m. followed by McCall, H." Howe and R. Henry. On the outward journey all the competitors were riding well, N. Howe gaining on the field. The position at the turn at Mourea placed N. Howe nearly a minute ah'ead of Haycock with the rest of the riders following 'closely. Very little change occurred in the p-lacings until the abbatoirs were reached, where N. Howe, who was suffering from a swollen knee, began to fall back and he was shortly passed by all riders with Haycock in ,the lead. Haycock was first to reaeh the finishing post and was followed by McCall and Henry. With his handicap of 5min 5sec, McCall was the winner of the race, which h'e rode in lhr lmin the times of second and third to finish being as follows. G. Haycock (3min 30sec), 59 min, 30sec^ 2; R.
