LONDON , Saturday. A libel action by Lady Louis Mountbatten against the newspaper People, has been settlqd oh the basis of defendants apologising and paying plaintiff's costs. The Chief Justice impounded a. copy of the publication, remarking that some of the libels were criminal. Mr. W. Norman Birkett, K.C., pointed out that Lord Louis Mobntbatten was ordered with his sh'ii) to Malta in August, 1931. His Wife naturally decided to Accompahy him, thking their two childfen; thereby' occasioriing atrocious and abomina'ble rumours. "It was a matter of acnte difficulty to ascertain, the actual auth'Or or source, but if the author or repeater is discovered, no mercy will be snown." An article quoted hy Mr. Birkett referred to the association of a. leading wealthy hostfess with colohred men, in consequence o'f Which she was given a hint in a high quarter to leave Engfand.
