GRAND THEATRE.
TO-NIGHT Romance and adventure join hands in an engrossing and entertaining film at the Grand Theatre. It is called "Paradise Island" and the ?' South Seas is its locale with Kenneth III Harlan, Mareeline Day, Tom Sants- [H chi, Betty Boyd, Gladden James, Paul ■' Hurst, Vic Potel and Will Stanton ||| playing an assortment of characters that makes this Tiffany picture all 111 that it should be in the way of enter- lll tainment. The story is concerned with the 111 rivalry between two adventurers. These two, Thorne and Lutze, have [jj matched wits for boats, cargo and lll girls many times, Lutze usually los- :■ ing to Thorne. Thorne has heard ||| , that Lutze is the king pin on the is- [" land of Tonga, and he goes there ijj deliberately to annoy Lutze. Arriving at the same time as Ellen ;■ Bradford, who has come to marry lll Roy Armstrong, the only white [" ' planter on the island. Roy has proven too weak for the temptations | spread before him by Lutze, to whom he has lost half his plantation in gambling. He is drunk when Ellen arrives and she decides not to- marry him until he reforms. When Lutze and Thorne see Ellen both men want her — but Lutze not being bothered by any conscienfe or instincts for playing a fair game, while Thorne realises such a girl is not to be had for the taking, the rivalry between the two in this instance is particularly intriguing. Four corking songs by Val Burton and Will Jackson — "I've Got a Girl in Every Port," "Is It Just Another Dream," "If Love Should Come My Way," and "Drinking Song."
