"NO GENTLEMAN"
EX-GERMAN CROWN PRINCE CAUSES POLITICAL DISCUSSION. POTSDAM, Germany. When Frederiek Wilhelm of Hohenzollern, the former Crown Prince of Germany, departed in exile at the end of the war, little did he imagine that he would beeome the centre of an agitated political discussion on the eve of his 50th birthday. But such is the case, for to-mor-row is the day and this is the question being debated in Germany: Did the former Crown Prince violate a promise allegedly given to the 'German Government through the late Gustav Stresemann, when on April 2 he came out for Hitler for president. This is the public statement released from his estate at Oels, that caused the rumpus which still keeps tongues wagging: "As I believe that a closed nationalist front is absolutely essential, I shall vote for Adolf Hitler." Republican Germany insists that a public endorsement of Hitler is tantamount to dabbling in politics. They say when he came from exile he promised to keep out of politics, and charged that he is no gentlemam The Hohenzollern house organ, "Aufrechte," says the Crown Prince merely promised to submit to a "certain political reserve" after his return and there the matter rests.
