RESULTS OF JUNIOR MATCHES
Owing to the absence of the senior representative team at Hamilton, there was only a moderate attendance at Arawa Park on Saturday afternoon. Those who were present however, witnessed some good football in the Junior A and B competitions. The weather was almost perfect, with searcely any breeze. Horohoro gained a surprise victory over Whaka by a small margin, and Waikite also showed improvement to draw with Old Boys A. In the Junior B grade, High School B demonstrated their superiority in both forwards and backs over Ngongotaha B to the tune of 15 points to nil. Dowling at centre scored four tries for High School. Ngongotaha were lacking in both fitness and combination. Old Boys B dominated the play in their match with Ngongotaha A, and were unlucky not to win. The game resulted in a draw 6-all, each side having an unconverted try and a penalty goal to its eredit at the final whistle. Kahukura Not Extended Kahukura were the only team to have a clear win in the Junior A grade. Horohoro made an excellent showing to beat Whaka by 10 points to 8 after a close game. Whaka have lost several players recently, but this does not detract from the merit of Horohoro's win. Waikite drew with Old Boys A, 6-all, thus demonstrating that they are still to be reckoned with in the competition. Kahukura were not extended to beat Rotoiti by 16 points to three. The winners' paclc was superior to that of Rotoiti on the day, and although their rearguard lacked combination, some good individual play kept things moving. Play was in Rotoiti's twentyfive for most of the game, and if the Kahukura rearguard had eombined better, the score might have been much higher. Lillas at full-back was not as impressive as usual. His handling was faulty, and he showed a tendency to run back with the ball. Kahukura's first try came when Locke followed up well to go over well out. The kick failed. Kahukura 3-, Rotoiti nil. Play remained in Rotoiti's territory, and Kahukura increased their lead, when Bennet snapped up the ball and kicked through. The forwards followed up, and bad defence on the part of Rotoiti allowed Lewis to score near the posts. Martin converted. Kahukura 8, Rotoiti nil. The scores were unchanged at half time. Penalties were. num'erous in the second spe l,nadmfolr aoinrdluaoin second spell, and from one of these near half-way, Martin put over a magnificent -kick 1br""^ahukura. The Kahukura forwards played f a great game, but the passing in their backs was very weak. However, the Rotoiti rearguard were several degrees worse at handling and passing movements soon broke down. Duff played a good game at second five-eighths, varying his play well, and feeding his three-quarters to advantage; His efforts were rewarded just on the call of time with a good try, which Martin converted. Rotoiti were successful with a penalty kick, making the final score Kahukura 16, Rotoiti three. Mr. Riggs was the referee.
