CAMPBELL DEFEATS SULLIVAN "IN HEAVYWEIGHT CONTEST

INVERCARGILL, Sunday. The fifteen round contest for the professional heavyweight hoxing champiohship of New Zealand on Saturday night, Alan Campbell, of Timaru, holder, successfully defended his title against Billy Sullivan, of Hastings, ,the challenger being unable to continue after the twelfth round. Campbell won with a technical knock QUt. The fight was a good one, and during the early rounds, in which Sullivan shaded Campbell for a couple of rounds, 'thqre was great promise of an even cpntest. Campbell was punching cleaner and harder, however, and gradxially wor e the challenger down. In tfie twelfth round,' he inflicted much punishment to the head and hody and Sulliyan collapsed a second or two before the gong went, and had to he carried to his corner, where & doctor examined him and found his right arm had given" out at the elbow, as a result of an injury sus^ained in tlie Cossill fight at Ashburton. ■Of the twelve rounds, Campbell clearly won nine and proved too good in most departments for Sullivan. The purse was £80.
