ABLE TO MEET SITUATION

'"■■■ Rec. July 3, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, Saturday.. The Daily Telegraph Lohbyist, says that the British' Governmeiit has ample power. to deal with the Free State's default and to sufficiently cover, eyery ' Free State obligation amounting to £2,000,000 per annum
in addition to £3,000,000 lapd annuities. Provision will be made to prevent the Free State exporting to other countries and then to Great Britain to escape the duties. Lahour has decided to oppose the legislation on the ground that AngloIrish warfare is disastrous, and will advocate delay in the imposition of duties until the Imperial Economic Gonferenee at Ottawa has a chance of idisoussing the .dispute, .and poseibly of inducing the » acceptance of arbitration. : . It is reported in Dublin that Mr. ; de Valera's land annuities note going . .to the- Secretary of- State, Mr. J. H. •Thomas, to-day, modifies the personhel of the proposed arbitration tribupal, enabling a compromise. ■ i , i . , The tr ibunal suggested is General ■ Hertzog as chairman and two Irish and tw.o British representatives.
