SATURDAY, MATINEE 2 P.M.
Lionel Atwill, whose high place among the really great actors of the stage has long been established, comes to the screen of the Majestic Theatre Saturday, in "The Silent Witness," Fox Film's mystery romance, making his talking pieture debut in the same role he made famous on the stage in this country and in London. Atwill appears as the proud and sacrificing father, Sir Austin Howard, whose son has become involved in the murder of a young woman. Circum- ' stantial evidence is so damaging that the police are satisfied that he is the murderer, hut, to save the boy, Sir Austin permits himself to he arrested and is tried for the crime. Tlve surprising climax of the trial was important in making "The Silent Witness" a stage smash and is expected to prove an even greater thrill in the pieture. Besides Atwill, the cast includes Bramwell Fletcher, who enacts the role of the son who was so lacking in courage, one he played on the stage; Greta Nissen, in the role of the beautiful but faithless woman; Helen Maclc, Weldon Heyburn, Mary Forbes, Montague Shaw, Wyndham Standing, Herbert Mundin, Billy Bevan, Alan Mowbray and Lumsden Hare. Besides high powered drama, the action is said to embrace both romance and comedy of the highest order.
