BAND OF HOPE.
On Tuesday evening members of the W.C.T.U., Opotiki branch, held their first meeting in St. John's Hall. The evening was opened with community singing which was conducted by Captain Thompson of the Salvation Army. The following programme was then rendered: — Song, "Down the Vale," Miss Sophie Te Pau; recitation, "The Shell," Miss Sonia Cooper; song, "Tell Me the Stories of Jesus," Miss Jean Griffiths; reeitation, "Remember This," Miss Dell Atawell; hymn, Presbyterian choir (children's) ; recitation, "Daffodils," Miss Alice Russell; poi dance and song (encored), Waioeka Band of Hope Maori girls (under supervision of Sister Jessie) ; nursery rhymes (encored), by four little Maori girls; recitation, "The Dormouse," one of the Waioeka Maori girls; address by Sister Jessie, "Alcohol"; recitation, "Elfin Painter," Misses J. Wylde, Y. and D. Burton; song, "Joys of Childhood," Salvation Army choir (under supervision of Miss Valerie Thompson) ; Maori song, Miss Sampson (aceompanied by Mrs. Hambly); Maori fan dance and croon song (great applause and encored), by
four of Sister Jessie's Maori girls ; Maori song, Miss Sophie Te Pau and Maori choir; recitation, "Fairies Around the Chimney," Miss Rona Willcinson; hymn "There's a Green Hill Par Away," Anglican children's choir (supervision of Miss W. An--derson) ; recitation, "The Cow," Miss Dulcie Julian; conelusion hymn, Captain and Mrs, Thompson and Miss Yalerie Thompson.
