CAPONE'S MOVE

REALLY IN PRISON. PROMISE TO REFQRM. NEW YORK, June 6. A1 Capone, the Chicago gangster, has at length gone into a real convict prison. His privileged term at Chicago County Gaol had to come to an end with the final dismissal of his appeal. The remainder of his sentence (for income tax evasion) he will serve in the Federal Penitentiary at Atlanta. He left the Chicago prison with an undertaking to be "good" and a promise to reform. One of his last acts was to give his hair brushes to the man who had shared his cell. The gangster, who was given an eleven-years' sentence, was to have gone to Lsavenworth Penitentiary. The fact that a large number of his henchmen are already confined there caused the authorities to make a lastminute change and to make Atlanta his destination. In the courste of an infcerview in ihe Pullman car in which he travelled, A1 Capone declared: "When I get out of gaol — which will be in about seven and a half years, with the deduction for good behaviour — I am going to keep out of politics and all other rackets," He was indignant at the allegation — which he attributed to Prohibitionists — that he favoured Prohibition hecause it suited him. "It would be better," he added, "if Prohibition were out of the way and we could handl'3 beer legitimately. There would be more profit, no payoffs (brihes), no loss of lorries, and a ch'eaper price."
